Dernoshek is coming off of a top twenty finish in his first career Four Champions Championship Series race in Jennerstown, Penn., where he barely made the field in qualifying. For the unsponsored team, that afternoon was a small victory during the course of the season. To finish the race where they did was just icing on the cake.

“Making the race was really big for us. We saw that as a small victory in and of itself,” said Dernoshek. “The race went pretty well for us since we stayed out of trouble for the most part and came home with a decent finish and a straight car.”

Dernoshek had no problem making the show during the last race at Mansfield, as he out qualified a number of stout cars. This time, he is armed with the setup from his last visit, two additional hours of practice, and a new shock package. In addition to the improvements surrounding the chassis, Warren Dernoshek Performance Engines made some performance improving changes to the powerplant of the fan favorite nuclear green Pontiac.

“Again we are just going into the deal with the first goal to qualify and then go for a good finish,” said the rookie driver from Canonsburg, Penn. “We had a pretty good car in the spring at Mansfield and we have a good idea how to make it better for this time. We've gotten a lot better with our shock package thanks to the help of the guys at AFCO and we learned some more stuff about what kind of setups we need to be running. Dad went to work and found a few things to help us in the motor department and we will see if they have a big effect because motor is important at Mansfield to pull off the corners. We are not going to have power like Benny Gordon and some of the others, but we should be better than we were at Jennerstown.”

Unless sponsorship is found, Mansfield will most likely be the season finale for the No. 10 team before they regroup for 2005 and set their sights on success in the year to come. In the nine races the team has traveled to this season, they’ve learned plenty to help them for 2005 and set them in the right direction according to Dernoshek.

“This most likely will be the last race of the year for us unless we can find sponsorship for the remaining events,” he said. “We have learned a ton this year -- everyone on the team has. With the resources we have I think we have made as much progress as, or more progress than, anyone. We will continue to work to improve and learn about these cars and hopefully we can be a consistent top ten car next year.”
