Dernoshek Brings "Big Mo" to Inaugural Visit to
Adirondack International Speedway |

CANONSBURG, PA (Sept. 8, 2004) – Logan Dernoshek is bringing
a couple of friends with him to the first visit of the USAR Hooters ProCup
Series to Adirondack International Speedway. In addition to the Pirate Parrot,
the mascot of the Pittsburgh Pirates that’s been on the roll bar since the Motor
Mile event, Dernoshek is bringing “Big Mo”mentum along with him to the Northern
Division season finale.
Dernoshek is coming off his career best finish, eighth, at Illiana Motor
Speedway nearly three weeks ago. The first top ten for the No. 10 team was
preceded by a solid run at Mansfield and a former career best finish at Motor
Mile Speedway in Virginia.
“Illiana was a good run, to a point,” said the rookie driver from Canonsburg,
Penn. “We were still two laps down and off the pace by a couple of tenths but I
think the finish helped with letting us know we are going in the right
direction, though. I think our outlook on Adirondack is about the same as
Illiana. We want to stay out of trouble, finish the race, and hopefully have a
good finish. We definitely don't want to have to rebuild the car going into the
championship races and we can't afford it, time or money wise.”
There will be two challenges facing the No. 10 team this weekend in New York.
Most USAR Hooters ProCup events are on Saturdays where volunteer crews, like
Dernoshek’s, can make it to the events with minimal loss of time at their
regular jobs. This event, however, is on a Friday, so the No. 10 team is going
to be short a few people because of occupational commitments.
“We will make two stops just like Illiana, one for gas and one for tires. We'll
make do with what we have because my guys always work really hard and do a great
job,” Dernoshek commented. “They’ve yet to disappoint me this year and I'm sure
they won't dissappoint this time, either.”
The second challenge facing the team will be the fact that hardly anyone has
ever seen the Adirondack facility before, except in pictures on their website.
According to those photos, as well as testimony from one competitor who tested
at the facility, the half mile oval more closely resembles a circle where
handling is key and horsepower isn’t quite as essential as it might be at other
tracks.
“I honestly have no clue about this facility. I’ve never seen the track and
haven't heard too much about it. We are going to go up there with a basic flat
track setup and adjust from there and we should end up with another good run,”
remarked Dernoshek.
Following this event, the No. 10 team and Dernoshek will qualify for their first
Four Champions Championship Series. The Four Champions Championship Series
combines the top thirty drivers from the northern and southern divisions of the
Hooters ProCup Series in a five-race playoff style shootout from which an
overall series champion is crowned. All of the season-long bonus money is
awarded during this series and the racing is extremely intense.
“When we start this race we will be in the Championship Series for the first
time in our ProCup career,” the driver of the No. 10 unsponsored Pontiac said.
“The team and I are excited about that. Once the southern guys come together
with us it is going to be an even tougher deal than it is now, so our focus is
going to have to switch to making the race first and then having a good run.”
